Celebrate nature – June 20

Celebrate nature – June 20

Come join Chris Buddle, author of A Portrait of Astonishing Nature and Creek 53 Trustee, at 7:30 pm on June 20th for a celebration of poetry, art, natural history and the splendour of our local area.

In collaboration with the Greenwood Centre for Living History and sponsored by Groupe Houde we’ve planned an evening to introduce you to the darting dragonflies, mythical snapping turtles, industrious beavers, sleek tree swallows, magnificent pine trees and lots more of the flora and fauna that inhabit the area protected by Creek 53.

On display will be a slide show of images taken by resident photographer Stéphane Hogue and resident birder Wayne Grubert. Come see the truly amazing diversity of wildlife the Creek 53 watershed supports.

In addition to reading from A Portrait of Astonishing Nature, Chris will share stories about our natural world, and discuss the importance of wild places, and why their conservation is a priority for all. He will discuss the ways in which all of us are deeply connected to nature, and the ways that our ecosystems support us, and support our planet. Chris will also share the evolution of his book, and how you can be inspired to be a natural historian, and sketch, write, and share your stories.

Chris Buddle is an artist, poet, writer and scientist. He is a Professor of Entomology at McGill University and has published close to 100 scientific papers, supervised and taught hundreds of students in a 20+ year career. Chris has spent most of his life enthralled with the natural world. He is a natural historian: documenting and observing (with pen or brush), asking questions, and celebrating biodiversity.

Chris will be on hand to sign your copy of A Portrait of Astonishing Nature. All proceeds from the sale of this book will support the Creek 53 Conservancy Trust, bettering the planet for all.
