On its way to the Ottawa River, the water running off the Hudson escarpment flows under this bridge on the old M&O railway line. The stream came to be known as Creek 53 by local residents because of the “R53” engraved in the side of the bridge, as shown in the photo. The name does not appear on any maps, but it is part of local lore.
And so, “Creek 53 Conservancy Trust” seemed the most fitting name for the organization dedicated to preserving this watershed.
