Creek 53 Nest Box monitors

Nest box monitors take flight at Creek 53

Earlier this year, we put out a recruitment call to the Friends of Creek 53, looking for volunteers to join our Community Land Steward program as nestbox monitors. The response was enthusiastic!

The journey began on February 28, when our new recruits braved freezing rain to attend an intensive training session with Martin Picard of DOA. They learned how to assess nestbox contents to determine which species used each box and how successful the nest was, as well as how to record data in a standardized format that integrates seamlessly into DOA's broader nestbox network statistics.

Land Stewardship Priorities 2025-2028

The Creek 53 Conservancy Trust is responsible for the conservation of over 103 ha (300 arpents) and so it is important to develop clear priorities and goals which will guide our stewardship activities.  Over the last several months we have analyzed and synthesized surveys, research and ideas into the land stewardship priorities for the Creek 53 Conservancy Trust for the coming three years.

Property surveys: Assessing ecological significance

When a group of Hudson landowners suspected that their properties were host to many different ecosystems, they went in search of a professional opinion. In the summer of 2020, they invited Nature Conservancy Canada (NCC) to survey the flora and fauna and assess the ecological value of their properties.
