The plight of the Monarch butterfly has become well known in the past few years. Though adult butterflies feed on the nectar of many flower species, the milkweed caterpillars eat only the leaves of common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). Large communities of common milkweed abound on the properties protected by Creek 53.
